What I do

I provide a Garden Design service for all types of projects from small residential to larger community, institutional and commercial schemes.

My aim is to create beautiful spaces which meet the needs of the Client , Users and the Environment.

I provide a professional service, which can range from an outline design through to contract supervision and maintenance plans. My preference is to carry a project through to completion, working with a carefully selected landscape contractor to faithfully execute your approved design.

I have a particular interest in gardens for the Elderly and Dementia suffers. Much research has been done into the benefits of gardens to these people and ways in which this can be maximised. I would be pleased to discuss this with anyone interested in this field.

I am also experienced in working with self-build/community groups, such as schools, to produce a design and then supervise the construction using your own volunteer workforce. In these situations, the design takes in account the likely limited skills and resources of the workforce. Children are also welcome!

My qualifications in horticulture also allow me to offer a Garden Renovation Service. This is ideal for those who have an established garden which has got out of hand and is now more of a problem than a joy. This service involves mainly working with the existing planting and, by skilful pruning and training, to improve the overall appearance, give individual plants the opportunity to give of their best and equip you to look after it in the future.

My Background

My work as a garden and landscape designer allows me to combine my passion for gardens with my many years design experience as a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer.

I have worked in the past with Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Developers on numerous schemes, from small residential developments, sheltered housing schemes, land reclamation for commercial/industrial/residential/public open space after use.

I am experienced in all aspects of the construction process, from initial brief, through Design; Construction Drawings; Specifications; Bills of Quantity; Contract Documentation; Tender Procurement and Contract Supervision.

My most relevant academic qualifications are;

  • Honours Degree in Building Engineering

  • RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) Advanced Certificate in Horticulture

  • BTEC Professional Diploma in Garden Design

Where I Work

I am based in North Shropshire, near Telford and Shrewsbury and normally work within Shropshire and the adjoining counties of Cheshire; Staffordshire; Warwickshire and the West Midlands. However, I am very happy to consider projects further afield, so please contact me to discuss.

Fees

Every project is different, so it is impossible to indicate fees at this stage. However, you are not committed to anything until you have accepted my written quotation. This would normally be sent after I have visited the site and discussed the project with you, free of charge, in person.
